Langley Roundup: News + Events for June 12th, 2025

By Rainer Fehrenbacher
8 min read

Good morning Langley!

Right now it's mostly cloudy with a temperature of 13°C, with the humidity sitting at 67% with good visibility and a light breeze.

For the rest of today, it'll stay mainly cloudy with the temperature climbing to a pleasant 18°C. Even though the sun is hidden behind the clouds, the UV index will be fairly high at 6, so you might want to keep that in mind if you're spending time outdoors. Remember that you can still get a sunburn on a cloudy day!

Tonight will be partly cloudy with temperatures dropping to 11°C.

Overall, it's shaping up to be a pretty cozy day - not too hot, not too cold, with some clouds hanging around but nothing dramatic weather-wise. No watches or warnings are in effect, so it should be a pleasant day to be out and about!

Speaking of being out and about, today brings some fascinating local stories - from community gatherings at fire halls to housing developments moving forward, plus some concerning news about criminal charges and court proceedings.

For events, you can drop by the Brookswood Library for book club this afternoon, or check of the kick-off of Langley City's free concert series with KatMoon Band at Douglas Park this evening!

Feds Force Vote on Canada Post's "Final" Offer as Union Pushes for Real Arbitration

Federal Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu is once again undermining the Canadian Union of Postal Workers by forcing a membership vote on Canada Post's contract offers.

This repeats the government's anti-labor playbook from last year's back-to-work legislation.

The union rightfully demands arbitration to resolve disputes over pay, benefits, pensions, and precarious part-time labor. Canada Post management claims arbitration would be "too slow," prioritizing their bottom line over workers' collective bargaining rights.

This federal intervention continues the disturbing pattern of treating our public postal service like a profit-driven private business rather than an essential public service that should prioritize workers and communities.
