Grab the rain jacket. Langley is in for a soggy Thursday, with about 9 mm of rain and a high near 10°C.

Friday looks much the same. The rain eases to a light sprinkle for Halloween on Saturday, with evening temperatures around 8°C for trick-or-treaters. Sunday finally brings breaks in the clouds, though mornings dip to a chilly 3°C.

The B.C. NDP caucus picks an interim leader after the B.C. Conservatives won a two-thirds majority. Questions are already building about what that means for old-growth forests.

Closer to home, the Township is flushing water mains, Fort Langley wants artists for its bicentennial banners, and there is plenty happening for Halloween.

### 🚰 [Township flushing water mains in Willoughby, Aldergrove](https://heylangley.ca/posts/langley-water-main-flushing-fall-2026/?ref=langleyunion.ca)

The Township of Langley is flushing water mains in Willoughby and Aldergrove until Dec. 18\. This can cause low pressure and brown or gritty tap water for a while.

It is temporary and not a health hazard, but check the cold tap before doing a load of whites. Questions go to Township Public Works at 604-532-7300, and Langley City residents are not affected because the City runs its own water system. (via Hey Langley)

### 🎨 [Fort Langley seeks artists for 2027 bicentennial banners](https://fortlangleycommunity.com/call-for-artists-design-fort-langleys-2027-bicentennial-street-banners/?ref=langleyunion.ca)

Organizers acknowledge that the history of these lands and waterways reaches far beyond 1827\. Inviting Kwantlen artists to help shape how the anniversary is told is a welcome step. (via Fort Langley Community Association)

### 🗳️ [B.C. NDP regroups after Conservative two-thirds win](https://fraservalleytoday.ca/2026/10/29/decimated-b-c-ndp-caucus-meeting-to-discuss-interim-leadership-after-election-loss/?ref=langleyunion.ca)

The B.C. NDP caucus meets at the legislature today to choose an interim leader after Saturday's election loss.

The caucus shrank from 47 members to 28, while the B.C. Conservatives now hold 63 seats, a two-thirds majority. Outgoing Premier David Eby resigned as party leader on election night.

Geoff Meggs, former chief of staff to the late premier John Horgan, says the next leader must prove the party can be trusted with public money. Horgan left a $5.7-billion surplus in 2022, and this year's deficit is now forecast to hit $14 billion.

Meggs also noted that voters want services protected. A two-thirds majority gives the new government a lot of room in the legislature and leaves a much smaller Opposition to defend health care, housing and other public services.

The incoming B.C. Conservative government has made two forest promises that point in different directions.

The party has pledged to protect the province's most endangered and rarest ecosystems. It has also promised "more fibre on trucks," which is industry shorthand for logging and hauling more timber.

Both cannot easily come first. The first forestry decisions will show which promise wins out.

Starting Sunday, Nov. 1, B.C. stays on permanent daylight saving time, so clocks will not fall back. More commutes and school drop-offs will happen in the dark, and Road Safety at Work is urging employers to adjust early-morning driving schedules.

Drivers are advised to slow down and leave more space. That matters most for the kids and parents walking and biking to school before sunrise. (via Langley Advance Times)
